• Multiple audiences. Specialized navigation.
Professionals and the public visit aiaseattle.org for very different reasons. To simplify wading through hundreds of pages of content, we were asked to create a bifurcated
navigation. Choosing Profession or Public presents different choices in the nav below, and the nav is color-coded to match the choice above.

  • Primary Content. Bite, Snack, Meal
Feature stories populate the first three columns on the left.
They each use a picture overlay that has the ability to have a main title and sub-title. Clicking on the green plus sign prompts a window-shade function that reveals the first few sentences of the story with an option to read more on the story page.

    Events sidebar.
The events sidebar always remains in the fourth column and anchored under the masthead. Secondary stories and social media posts fall below.

    Donor Recognition.
The far right-hand column is reserved for large donors, ads and special highlighted posts from AIA Seattle.

  • Find an Architect
Folio allows clients to find the architect best suited for their project.
Seven filters allow the user to focus their search. A sidebar lists every firm in the database in alphabetical or reverse alphabetical order.
Clicking on an image takes you to a firm portfolio page. There one finds a grid of images that can be enlarged in a spotlight feature, along with firm overview and a link to their site.
The back-end is designed for third-party uploads. Each member firm uploads and manages their own content.

AIA Seattle is one of AIA’s the largest and most active chapters in the United States. Their old site was outdated, confusing to navigate and difficult to update. More troublesome was the fact that multiple databases, e-commerce, event scheduling and registration were cobbled together with multiple third- party vendors. This made management of the site and member service cumbersome, difficult to track and unreliable. Add to this that there are hundreds of pages of ever-changing content for multiple audiences – both public and professional – with varying needs and interests. | The new site features a navigation that allows AIA Seattle to curate content for different audiences. Because aiaseattle.org is a rich business resource, professional members return to the site for multiple reasons on a regular basis. Therefore it takes on the role of an online periodical. A modular approach to programming enables staff to design each page of the site more like a newspaper, changing layout and content to suit content types. All e-commerce and event registration is managed through a single back-end and integrated database. There is also a Committee Member communication tool allowing multiple groups to coordinate schedules, documents and events in a single dashboard. | The site has been able to evolve significantly over the past few years to respond to evolving needs of AIA’s members and the public.
